Sophie Beale joins Keely Hunter at London Fashion Week SS16 Headonism Exhibition

Posted by

We love celebrating the success of the milliners in our store, and as we are lucky enough to stock some really talented artists, success often comes their way!

Although our focus in on Australian millinery, we like to bring a few international milliners who we feel are bringing a new and fresh perspective to the craft in their design aesthetic, and use of materials. Sophie Beale and Keely Hunter are two such milliners who are really pushing boundaries with their work and creating modern millinery that says something different. And it seems that the British Fashion Council and milliner Stephen Jones OBE both agree with us!

This year Sophie Beale joins the esteemed Headonism line-up at London Fashion week for SS16 and Keely Hunter is now part of the exhibit for her 3rd season. The Headonism milliners are selected and curated by Stephen Jones, and as part of this initiative they receive mentorship from him and opportunities to be part of installations and projects throughout London Fashion Week. Emma Yeo and Harvy Santos are the two other exceptional milliners who were selected this year, and we are high with anticipation about what this creative bunch will imagine for their SS16 collections.

Sophie's millinery has a sense of modern romance to it, she re-imagines the lines and shapes that hats can take, and imaginatively and sensitively uses progressive materials in way that is both super contemporary and very classical.

Keely's headwear is quite different and has a real street aesthetic, but again she has a real focus on the mastery of modern materials and a futuristic design sensibility which is unmatched by anyone is the field right now.

Ironically Sophie Beale and Keely Hunter are both from the Isle of Wight in the UK and despite being the same age, didn't meet until they started studying millinery together at Kensington and Chelsea College in London. All we can say is that the Isle of Wight must have had something amazing in the air to create such millinery talent.

So take your time to appreciate the talents of this creative pair and keep your eyes out for their Spring/Summer 16 collections in the future...
