Reny Kestel Millinery at The Eternal Headonist

Posted by

A slightly belated post on the 12th day of our 10 Days of Spring Hats campaign (apologies we got interrupted selling hats!), but although timekeeping might not be our strong point, finding milliners doing creative and interesting things is something we'd like to think we are a little better at! Our 10th milliner from the Spring Racing series is one such artisan, and one whose work we thought would be an excellent way to close out this mini-series, so this evening we present to you the fabulous millinery of Reny Kestel.

Reny really has a way with feathers, reinventing them in unique and abstract ways which seem to perfectly retain their light and fragile quality, but give them a contemporary and directional feel. She delicately and surreally positions feathers on her hats as though they could just flutter off in a heavy breath, (of course they won't!), but then uses them in strong, structured crown arrays to create dramatic impact, and also juxtaposes textures in the lacquers and treatments she applies to the feathers creating further abstraction and interest.

Her excellent millinery has seen her team up with designer Aurelio Costarello in his SS13/14 RETROSPECT showing in Sydney, work with Perth, Sydney and New York Fashion Festivals and also have her pieces grace the pages of top fashion magazines such as Vogue Italia and Marie Claire. Reny Kestel is definitely a milliner with a quality pedigree.

She runs the Hat Box gallery in her hometown of Perth which looks absolutely gorgeous and well worth a visit if you are ever over there. See the video below for a little insight into the milliner, her work and beautiful gallery. We are so glad that someone pointed us in the direction of Reny Kestel Millinery, as we are big fans of what she does and are really excited to be stocking her stunning sculptural work in our store. We hope you agree - it's pretty special!

So there you have it, we've wrapped up our countdown to our Spring launch next week, but this isn't it, we have lots more gorgeous headwear coming up for Spring Racing, including an extra special milliner announcement next week, so stay tuned...!
