If you've been dying to know what Spring Racing style trends will be winning trackside this season, Laura Moss editor of the Fashions on the Field bible, Racing Style Nation has given us a handy breakdown of trends to look out for when creating your perfect Spring Racing look. Especially useful for those of you planning to get involved in the various fashion competitions at the races this Spring!

Take a read of her advice below and then we suggest you set aside some time to devour her brilliant website which is just brimming with racewear inspo and tips, enjoy....!

With the 2015 spring racing season upon us, planning your next racewear/ FOTF ensemble can either be an exciting whirlwind to express your creativity or a fashion vortex leaving you questioning each styling decision. There are many different views out there on what the winning formula entails. One thing is certain however, there are golden rules of spring racing etiquette and presentation that every judge is looking for.

Complimentary and correctly worn millinery (see and;

a polished, season appropriate look for FOTF that adapts current trends are definitely key. You can review all winning style from 2014 Spring Racing Carnival at

Blend these with your personal take on what is ‘on trend’ that season and you are putting yourself in a great position to place in the finals or even walk away with that coveted sash.

So let’s look at some of the upcoming Spring trends and how they can be translated into spring racing style for the FOTF stage:

Underwater Love

When it was first forecast that an oceanic trend was lapping at our shores (see what I did there?) I had a fleeting vision of clam bras followed by a nautical inspired yawn. Much to my delight however, this trend is as luxurious as it is mature. Think gorgeous graphic water related prints, floaty draping and the amazing colour palette featuring deep greys, greens and blues. Due to the loud and bright approach many take in FOTF this may just be your point of difference for 2015.

Crisp lines, complimentary colours and a calm colour palette throughout. Choosing one colour and using different shades of that one colour throughout your look could quite be the trickiest style challenge for FOTF enthusiasts. Whilst the idea of being matchy/matchy can be terrifying think of this trend as more of a complementary approach utilising different shapes and pieces.

A nod to the 1970’s

As with every season when 70’s themes pop up as ‘on trend’ the words subtle and minimal are key. This is especially the case when translating the upcoming 70’s trends into spring race wear. Racing Style Nation is loving how many Australian designers are adaptng fringing and tassels into more elegant style dresses. You can keep it subtle by having a flouncy hemline, retro lapel shapes or utilise juxtaposed colour combinations.

Gingham Reborn

Presented in a range of colors that outdo any picnic tablecloth, this authentic spring look is likely to please the more traditional race wear lover. Modernise the gingham styling by opting to work in sexy sheer fabrics or a more dramatic blown up or tighter print. The gingham trend instantly screams boater but the possibilities for millinery on this one are truly endless. I also adore the idea of mixing a sheer floral print with alarge scale gingham pattern fabric for a modern twist.
